This is a rare and original hammered brass collection plate, commonly called Plat de Quete by the French, from the beginning of the 16th century during the French Renaissance Period as indicated by the engraved Fleur De Lys and Foliate trimming the plate which is typical from this period (the Renaissance Period is considered to have started on the French invasion of Italy in 1494 to the death of Henri IV in 1610). This beautiful hammered brass piece is consisting of a central acanthus shaped embellished surrounded by the original Gothic inscriptions that have faded over the centuries. Depending the way you are holding the piece and the direction of the light, you are still able to see those. The back is pierced as commonly done, in order to hang the piece on a wall. Note a small bent on the edge. Circa date 1510. Dimension 17 ¼"Diameter. This item(s) is currently in our Consignment Department.
