| A stunning Homme Debout handcrafted from solid cherry wood during the reign of King Louis XIII by the first half of the 17th century. This handsome piece of furniture boasts a splendid patina from the boldly sculpted flat molded cornice to the pair of paneled recessed doors accented with diamond’s points ornamentation and separated by a large central drawer. Both doors reveal a couple of storage compartments with a single shelf each. Locks, keys, handle and hinges are in original condition; note that the key for the drawer is missing and it cannot be locked (The screws holding the locks have been replaced at some point for sturdiness). The pediment consists of a pair straight back feet with a pair of frontal ball feet which have been added during the late part of the 19th century. This piece was purchased from a private collector and is originally from Perigord, a former province of France, currently corresponding to the Dordogne departement in the west part of the country. Circa date 1620. Dimensions 85"high/ 38"wide/ 25"deep. |
