Pair of 19th Century French Antique Directoire Period Poplar Armchairs This is an appealing pair of armchairs made from solid poplar at the beginning of the 19th century. Each is simply adorned with foliate medallion on the seatback which is standing upon the large rush seat flanked by armrests and supported by turned legs connected by stretchers. Pair of 19th Century French Antique Louis XIII Style Armchairs This is a very elegant pair of armchairs made from a lovely patinaed walnut by the end of the 19th century, each with straight seatback mounted with shell-shaped finials and a spindle rail gallery upon the large seat flanked by a nicely pair of scrolled armrests adorned with acanthus leaves and supported by turned legs joined to the straight back legs by H-shaped stretcher. Pair of French Vintage Louis XIII Style Armchairs This is a elegantly simple pair of armchairs commonly called Os de Mouton (Sheep Bone) by the French, made from solid beech wood during the first half of the 20th century. Each features an arched seatback flanked by a pair of nicely scrolled armrests standing upon the wide seat supported by Os de Mouton legs and stretchers, which insures stability and sturdiness. The fabric is indeed not original and estimated to be 20 years old, it is in used condition and would need to be replaced. Circa date 1930. Dimensions 42"high/ 19"seat height/ 22"wide/ 21"deep.

The French commonly calls such armchairs Chauffeuse; the word Chauffeuse is French and comes from the word "Chaud", which means warm/hot. Chauffeuse is a low seat armchair that was placed in the front of the fireplace to keep you warm. Both of them are covered by floral upholstery that must be replaced and are supported by nicely turned legs mounted on wheels. Circa date 1880. 19th Century French Antique Napoleon III Style Beech Wood Armchair This is a very cute petite armchair made from beech wood by the end of the 19 century recently covered by white fabric and ready for your favorites upholstery. Such low armchair are commonly called "Chauffeuse" by the French due to their low seat; they were originally placed front of the fire place to stay warm.
